Who is God? #2

God is Holy. God is Mighty. God is Perfect. God is Wise. God is Omnipotent. God is Omnipresent. God is Righteous. God is Sovereign.

Recite. Repeat. Remember.

But WHO IS GOD?

Gosh. The concept of God has changed so much over the centuries. If we look at God throughout time one thing is clear: the belief in a higher power is universal. The idea of God is written in creation, in the documented oral and written traditions of ages past, and in every culture. We all know deep dow: there is something bigger. We gave that something bigger the name God so long ago.

And then we molded and made God in our image. We've sanitized God. We've gendered God. We've made God tame and safe and explainable.

We've attempted to search all the things to explain God, describe God, bring God closely.

And sometimes I wonder is God just the idealized version of ourselves?

And then I remember the beautiful words of 1 John 4:16

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

God is love.

God in their beautiful, infinite wisdom knew we'd want an answer. And there it is.

Love.

Love.

Love.

God is love.

If you forgot everything you knew about God. Everything.

And you read the words "God is love."

How would that simple knowledge affect your daily life?

Since we are to be Christ-like, and God is love, then we must personify love. That means loving the lovable, kind friends & family members. However, it also means loving those that are very unlovable, those whose lifestyles are the opposite of ours, or revolting to us. Christ died for them, just as much as us. He loves them just as much as us. This fact may be hard to swallow & comprehend, but is true. So, the bottom line for me, is to give it my best to show love and kindness to all I encounter.
